Calendar vs Timeline
What’s the difference?
"Calendar" mode allows you to visually plan tasks over time — by day, week, or month. It is ideal for assessing workload density and scheduling your own tasks. The mode supports drag-and-drop functionality, duration settings, and direct editing of due dates and start dates from the calendar view. A sidebar with brief task information is also available.
Additionally, "Calendar" mode includes two key duration management options: "By Due Date" and "Modify Estimate", which allow flexible control over how tasks are displayed depending on whether you want to adjust the calendar period or the effort estimate.
If "By Due Date" is disabled, each task appears as a time span block from its start date to its due date. This makes it easy to see how many days a task takes and is useful for general planning.
If "By Due Date" is enabled, the task is shown only on its due date — only the end date is visible in the calendar. When dragging the task, its duration remains fixed; only the start and end dates shift accordingly. This is helpful when planning based on actual deadlines.
When "Modify Estimate" is enabled, you can directly adjust the effort estimate by resizing the task block in the calendar. Stretching or shrinking the task changes its estimated workload, and the start/end dates adapt automatically.
Note: When "By Due Date" is active, "Modify Estimate" becomes unavailable — the two modes cannot be used simultaneously.
Use "Calendar" when planning your personal tasks and visual time distribution is important.
"Timeline" mode is designed for team coordination. It displays colleagues’ workloads and helps you schedule tasks and meetings at optimal times. You can see who is busy and assign tasks considering other team members’ availability.
Use "Timeline" when assigning tasks within a team and you need to account for others’ schedules.
